Description: LIF, a global industry initiative, was formed in September 2000 with the purpose of developing and promoting industry common solutions for Location Based Services (LBS). The recommendations of the LIF to the mobile community are both network protocol and positioning technology independent with the goal of addressing interoperability issues and accelerating time to market of location-based services. Membership is open to companies worldwide, including application and content providers, infrastructure vendors, device manufacturers and mobile operators. There are currently over 100 members, and LIF also works with partner organizations within the wireless industry such as the Open GIS Consortium (OGC) and 3GPP. Founding members include Motorola, Ericsson and Nokia.
