Description: Claro Argentina provides PCS services to the Buenos Aires region. It introduced CDMA services in May 2000 and four months later launched two global positioning services giving customers access to real-time, web-based information on the geographical positioning of their handsets. In March 2002 CTI's majority shareholder Verizon Communications reduced its equity stake from 65 to 48 by transfering 5.5 million shares to a newly created employee trust managed by US Trust. The fund will distribute the shares to give employees a stake in the company. The following December CTI announced that it was looking for a new owner after Verizon hinted that it was considering pulling out of Argentina altogether. The operator has not released any further details on the matter. CTI is currently owned by Verizon Communications (48), Telfone - part of Grupo Clairn (20), US Trust (17), US investment bank Blackstone (10) and Morgan Grenfell/CAI (5) |
